2. Using "privilege" as a frame for thinking about how power is distributed in society began in communist circles in the 1960s. Since then, privilege and intersectionality have been both opposed and embraced by classic and Neo Marxists. If they have opposition, it's that privilege theory doesn't sufficiently explain the systemic roots of economic oppression. But at its core, privilege theory aligns perfectly with the Neo Marxist thinking about economy, class and the struggle for freedom.
